The Trinity men’s soccer team blanks Wesleyan 2-0 at home to cap off its first unbeaten season in history at 8-0.

At the end of the season, Trinity was named “the most outstanding team in the country” by the Intercollegiate Soccer Football Association.

There was no post-season or NCAA tournament at the time, so the national champion was determined by a vote of the intercollegiate soccer association.

Possessing both ”depth and balance,” Coach Roy Dath’s Trinity soccer team outscored its opponents 36 to 5 on the season, with senior co-captain and center forward Doug Raynard setting a Trinity record with 12 goals. Raynard was also named to the All-American Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association.

Also receiving national recognition were senior Co-Captain Don Duff and Sophomore Brendan Shea who were named Honorable Mention All American.

Junior Don Weinstein, sophomore Bill Lukens, sophomore Jon Widing, and sophomore goalie Jon Ocalt were also named to the All New England Team.

For Trinity Men’s Soccer and for all of Bantam nation, 1956 was a year to remember.
