During Rob Gabbe's outstanding career as an offensive center (1983-1987), Bates running backs produced more yardage than at any time in the college's football history. As the 6'2½", 255 lb. anchor of the offensive line, Rob was consistently recognized as the most powerful, quickest, and most effective center in New England Division III football.

He was twice a New England Small College Athletic Conference All-Star and twice was selected to the ECAC Division III All-Star Team. He received more votes for the Division III All-Star Team than any lineman in New England. In his senior year he was selected to the Jewish All-American Team, Honorable Mention A.P. Little All-American, Honorable Mention A.P. All-New England (All Divisions), and won the Goddard Award on offense here at Bates.
