Darrell “Earl” Jones (1976-79) was named Mizlou, Pepsi, and Football News first-team All-America in 1979. He ranks 12th all-time at NSU in interceptions (10) and pass breakups (26). His 19 pass breakups in 1979 ranked second at the time and still sits seventh in NSU’s single-season history. He was selected in the 1980 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons with the seventh pick in the third round. At No. 63 overall, he is the second-highest selection ever by an NSU player. He played four seasons with the Falcons from 1980-83. He also played on the basketball team in 1976-77 and ran on the 4x100 meter relay team in 1978 that ran :39.2 (as listed in 1988).
