Wayne Turner was elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sport of ice hockey.
Turner capped a brilliant career at NU by scoring the biggest goal in the history of Husky hockey. As a senior co-captain in the 1979-80 season, he immortalized the date February 11, 1980 when he fired a wrist shot past Boston College goaltender Bob O'Connor at Boston garden. Turner's overtime goal secured the Huskies first Beanpot Championship and elevated the program to the competitive NCAA tournament level it enjoys today. In addition to the Beanpot winning goal, Turner dominated the tournament. In the first round 6-5 overtime victory over BU, Turner had two goals, including the game tying goal with just under three minutes remaining in regulation.
For his career, Turner accumulated 51 goals and 57 assists for 108 points, and when he finished his career was the 12th all-time leading scorer in NU history.
