Donald Frederic Shy (November 15, 1945 – October 26, 2006) was an American professional football player and accomplished track and field athlete. A versatile running back, Shy played seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL), suiting up for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, and St. Louis Cardinals. He played his college football at San Diego State University, where he was a standout for the Aztecs.

In addition to his football career, Shy excelled in track and field. He competed for both San Diego State and Mt. San Antonio College, where he made a significant impact. At the 1966 AAU National Championships, he clocked a personal best of 13.61 seconds in the 120-yard hurdles, finishing second ahead of future world record holder and fellow NFL athlete Earl McCullouch. His achievements on the track earned him induction into the Mt. SAC Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.

Shy is remembered for his athletic versatility, competitive spirit, and contributions to both football and track and field.
