Leon Anderson was a former football player and coach for the Wonder Boys.
His playing career spanned from 1965-1968. In 1968, Anderson was an All-AIC quarterback and helped lead the Wonder Boys to an AIC Championship; the first under Tech Hall of Fame coach Don Dempsey. That year also saw the Wonder Boys produce 10 wins, giving that team one of four 10-win seasons in Tech history.
In terms of record performances, Anderson still ranks seventh all-time on the Total Offense list at Tech with 3,781 yards to his credit. Nearly 3,000 of those yards was gained through the air as Anderson has 2,981 career passing yards. The remaining 800 yards of total offense came on the ground.
In 1975, Anderson returned to his alma mater as an assistant football coach under Dempsey, and a year later, took over the reins. Anderson would be the head coach of the program from 1976-1979.
After coaching, Anderson remained an avid and loyal supporter of Arkansas Tech Athletics and in particular, the football program. A Green and Gold member, he spent many years as a clock operator at home football games.
Anderson’s all-around impact on Arkansas Tech Athletics is no clearer than the fundraising efforts by his former players to renovate the former Letterman’s Lounge in Hull and name the new facility in his honor; “Leon’s Lounge”.
