Jalissa (Gum) Fisher played softball at Tech from 2014-17 where she was a standout two-way player in the circle and at the plate, but for Fisher, pitching was where she established her greatness.
As a pitcher, Fisher had one of the best two-year stretches (2016 & 2017) of any pitcher in the country at the time and was lauded as an All-American each year as a result. Her breakout year came in 2016 when she led all of Division II in ERA at 0.60. In fact, that miniscule ERA was the lowest in all of NCAA softball, regardless of division that year.
A unanimous First Team selection and Pitcher of the Year honors that season, Fisher would also rank in the Top-25 in DII in Hits Allowed/7 innings (2nd; 3.18), Shutouts (5th; 11), Strikeouts/7 Innings (6th; 9.9), Strikeouts (11th; 264) and Wins (24th; 22). Virtually un-hittable down the stretch that year, Fisher allowed just four earned runs over her final 100 innings of work and had a stretch of 55 innings during that time where she did not allow a single earned run.
Her dominance that year helped carry the Golden Suns to their furthest postseason finish ever as they advanced to the Super Regional round of the Central Region Tournament. Prior to that, the Golden Suns captured their first GAC Regular Season Championship and were the top-ranked team in the region.
Overall, behind Fisher’s brilliance in the circle, Tech would set program records for overall wins (49), overall winning percentage (.817), conference wins (34), and conference winning percentage (.850).
A year later, there was no drop-off by Fisher as she remained a dominant pitcher. That year, Fisher would finish second in DII in strikeouts with 371, surpassing her previous single-season record by over 100 Ks. She would also repeat as a unanimous First Team pitcher and GAC Pitcher of the Year while also earning All-America honors once more.
Named to the GAC Softball All-Decade Team for the 2010s, Fisher ranks in the Top-10 all-time at Tech in 18 stat categories across both hitting and pitching. Among those, Fisher is the career record holder in Wins (46), ERA (1.31), Strikeouts (662) and Shutouts (21). She also owns four single-season records with marks in ERA (0.60; 2016), Strikeouts (371; 2017), Complete Games (22; 2017) and Shutouts (11; 2016).
