Bill Swain played football at North Bend High School for four seasons and was named to the Sporting News High School All-American Third Team when he was a senior. He was named to the First Team All-State Team and he played in the Shriners All-Star Football Game. He won the NBHS Football Cup in 1959. Football wasn't his only sport. Bill was a two-year basketball selection and an All-District baseball selection his senior year as a first baseman. He helped the Bulldogs win the District Baseball Championship. Following high school, Bill was a two-year starter at the University of Oregon playing center and linebacker. In 1963 he began a seven-year career in the National Football League, signing with the Los Angeles Rams. Bill went on to play with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and the Detroit Lions. He was noted as a strong tackler with good speed. Following business interests in New York, Bill moved to Florida where he went into property management.
