FOOTBALL
The players' player, the quiet hero.
These are a couple of the ways John Pica is described by his former teammates as well as his former opponents.
Whenever you talk to players on the 1967 Weymouth High School Football Team they say John Pica was the man. When you talk to former opponents from towns & cities (i.e. Quincy, Brockton, and Arlington) remember John Pica. Even Coach Jack Fisher was quoted as saying "John Pica was the most liked man he ever coached". John was a three year starter for Weymouth High School, both offensive line and defensive linebacker. He was co-captain of the 1966-67 team and earned several awards. Among them two time Patriot Legend All Scholastic, 1966
captain of Boston Globe All Scholastic, 1966 Herald America All Scholastic, 1966 Mass. All American High School Football Squad, 1966 John F. Kennedy Award, and a Harry Aggannis all star selection.
John attended Butler Jr. College and received the All American Honerable Men-tion. He transferred to Webber State College in Utah where he was a two year starter. Due to his success in college, he was given a try out with the New England Patriots.
John came back to Weymouth, and spent time coaching at Weymouth South High School. With regard to giving back to the community there is probably no individual who supports Weymouth sports more because of long hours needed to care for his business, John can no longer be on the playing fields with the kids, but the contributions financially and spiritually are surpassed by none.
Today John resides in Hingham with his Wife of 25 years, Diane and three chil-dren, Tina, Tiffany, and John the 3rd. He is the owner/operator of the Venetian Restaurant and is a member of the Sons of Italy and the Weymouth Lodge of Elks.
