A talented professional drummer, Billy Mason is also a compassionate humanitarian dedicated to his profession and practices a disciplined work ethic. Mason was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and spent his early years in Los Angeles, California. Moving to Fairborn in 1974, he graduated in 1977 from Park Hills High School where he played with the marching band for two years.

Mason, the son of a professional photographer and drummer "Bobby" Mason, played drums at an early age. In 1985, "Thunder" Mason formed a local band, The Brothers Rock, with Gary "Granite" Johnson and produced an album called Meet the Brothers. He began his career playing Dixieland, moved into Rock, and now is one of America’s leading Country drummers.

For nine years, he has played with the Tim McGraw band, the Dancehall Doctors, touring the country and performing on television, award shows, and music videos. His performances include the ACM Awards, the CMA Awards, the American Music Awards, the Video Blockbuster Awards, the Rosie O’Donnell Show (twice), and four times each on the David Letterman Show, the Jay Leno "Tonight Show," and Prime Time Country. He has appeared on six McGraw specials and the 2002 NBC special "Send Me Home" and in 2000 performed on a cruise ship. In January 2003, he performed at the AMA Awards with Elton John and Tim McGraw.

Mason was named 1998 Country Drummer of the Year by Modern Drummer magazine. Mason has done commercials for NuHart Hair, Bud Light, and the 2001 album release of Set This Circus Down and has endorsed such products as DW Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, and Pro Mark. He appeared in the magazines DW News, Not So Modern Drummer, twice in Country Weekly, and three times in Modern Drummer, the last time in November 2001 with a full-page article. He also appeared in the December 2002 issues of People magazine, Country Music News, and Country Music Today and in the January 2003 issue of People magazine. He is included in the books Perfect Harmony (the Tim and Faith story), McMom (the story of Tim’s mother), and Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors - This is Ours that was released in November 2002.

His albums include Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors, 2002, and Lawrence Bishop, Prayer of a Bad Man, 2002. Mason has associated with many famous artists during his career and has been photographed with such celebrities as Charles Barkley, Michael Bolton, Danny DeVito, the Dixie Chicks, Little Richard, Shaquille O’Neal, Donny Osmond, Ozzy Osbourne, Sinbad, Sting, and Henry Winkler. He has been given signed footballs and baseballs from celebrities including Warren Brusstar, Tug McGraw, and Peyton Manning and has signed drumheads for such celebrities as Brett Favre and Lynyrd Skynyrd. When the McGraw band was given a private tour of the White House, Mason sat at the President’s desk in the Oval Office and signed drumsticks for President and Mrs. Clinton.

Mason believes he has a God-given talent and loves to share this talent. He gives drum lessons in Nashville, plays for D.A.R.E. programs, and appears in schools around the country encouraging children to go for their dreams, get a good education, and stay away from drugs. He has made charitable appearances for the Fairborn High School music department (1998), Dayton Police (COPPS), Children’s Hospital of Illinois, and numerous other groups. He annually plays in celebrity golf tournaments and the Swamp Stock Celebrity softball games to raise money for charity and has signed a cymbal as a donation to the “Make-A-Wish Foundation.” He also has a great sense of humor. During the last George Strait concert at Three Rivers Stadium, Mason, Kenny Chesney, and Mark Wills dressed as the Dixie Chicks and performed in front of 80,000 fans. When he is not rehearsing or on the road, he takes drum lessons from Charlie Adams (Yanni’s drummer). Mason and his wife reside in Nashville, Tennessee.
