An outstanding athlete at Madison, Ind. High School, Gus Moorhead brought his talents to Hanover in 1947.

He excelled for four years in Basketball and Track, leaving his mark in the Hanover record books in each sport. He lettered in both sports for four years and, in 1951, made all conference in track and was named to the Indiana College Basketball All-Star Team.

He set the school record and the conference record in the low hurdles during his track career at Hanover. Gus had an extremely successful career as a coach, teacher and administrator for 40 years at Versailles and South Ripley High Schools.

He coached basketball a total of 17 years, winning seven conference championships, three county tournament championships and four sectional titles.

For 23 years, he served as principal of South Ripley High School in Versailles.

He has been involved in many civic organizations and served with the Indiana High School Athletic Association for 10 years.

In 1980, Gus was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
