Before his collegiate success, Mitchell was a standout athlete at Dalton High School, where he excelled in both baseball and football. In baseball, he was a three-year letterman and played a pivotal role in securing regional championships, earning accolades such as Daily Citizen Player of the Year in 2002.
Drafted in the fifth round by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2005, Boggs quickly made his mark in the minor leagues, earning accolades such as Florida State League Pitcher of the Week and a spot on the Florida State League Post-Season All-Star Team in 2006.
