Married to Frank Willis Dowd Jr., and the mother of six children who played on Country Day teams from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, Sally was an avid supporter of Country Day Athletics and especially a champion for girls’ sports. Sally was generous with her time, energy, and resources and supported Country Day Athletics quietly yet meaningfully. For instance, during the summer, she and her son would often load up their farm’s irrigation system to water the Country Day fields. Sally was a charter member of the Honorary Alumni Association and was President of the Parents’ Association (1969-70).

In 1982, Dowd Field was dedicated to her memory. Fondly called the Sally Dowd Memorial Field “A Playing Field for Girls Dedicated in Loving Memory of Sally Carson Dowd, 1929 – 1981”, it is home to both lacrosse and field hockey.
