A trusted presence on the sidelines for 28 years as Charlotte Country Day School’s team physician, Dr. Don D’Alessandro has profoundly influenced the health and success of generations of student-athletes while shaping the landscape of sports medicine across the Charlotte region. Renowned for his expertise and his commitment to a multidisciplinary model of care—including athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physician assistants—he has earned repeated recognition as one of Charlotte’s “Top Doctors.” Celebrated not only for clinical excellence, but also for his compassion and mentorship, Dr. D’Alessandro has made lasting contributions regionally and nationally as a lecturer, researcher, and innovator.

Beyond Country Day, Dr. D’Alessandro has served as team physician for premier athletic programs ranging from high schools to professional organizations, including the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hounds, motorsports teams, and the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. As Chief of Sports Medicine & Shoulder Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center and Senior Partner in Sports Medicine at Miller Orthopedic Clinic and OrthoCarolina, he helped elevate standards of care and trained future sports medicine professionals through residency and fellowship programs. A visionary advocate for athletic training, he championed certified trainer hiring, licensure, and professional development across North Carolina. Whether stopping by the training room on weekends or welcoming athletes into his home for early evaluations, Dr. D’Alessandro consistently placed student-athletes first, leaving a lasting legacy of generosity, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to the Country Day community.
