Introduction for David Beavin at the Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony on March 15, 2025
Our next inductee is David Beavin, also a graduate of the class of 1968
David played football at St. Pius and was a member of the Region Championship teams of 1965 and 1967. He was the 1967 Team Captain, named MVP and All State Football.
David also pole vaulted all 4 years and was the AA State champion his senior year with a jump of 12’ 9”. It’s worth noting that St. Pius used steel poles until his senior year when they moved to fiberglass poles.
David was also president of the Senior Class.
He shared that the discipline, religious guidance, friendships and the quality of education received in his four years at Saint Pius X have made all his life’s challenges doable. To this day Dave remembers one of George Maloof’s favorite motivators: “ Pride, Desire, Never Give Up; Be There, God Almighty”!
After St. Pius, David attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship and roomed with a player from Marist. David clearly remembers they never lost to Marist in his 4 years at Pius. While at Georgia Tech, David’s team beat Georgia 3 out of the 4 years, and were the Sun Bowl champs in 1970.
David returned to St. Pius after Georgia Tech and coached with George Maloof for two years and Coach George Sattele for two years. He was blessed to coach Ralph King, another Hall of Fame inductee. He also coached track and football at Stone Mountain.
Dave shared that during his senior year football season, his dad died of a heart attack. Coach George Maloof, his teammates and classmates came to the funeral at IHM during school hours! After his burial, Dave went to football practice – arriving late. Coach Maloof stopped practice and he and the entire Team hugged me!! This is what Saint Pius X is All About!!
David, we are proud to inductee you in the St. Pius X Hall of Fame.
