One word describes the 2008 Jamestown College baseball team: Resilient. A talented Jimmies’ roster refused to throw in the towel after losing six of eight games heading into the NAIA Region III tournament in Mayville, North Dakota. At that moment, Jamestown’s potential was realized, and the team won four of five, including a winner-take-all contest against Northwestern College (Iowa) to advance to the Great Plains Super Regional which the Jimmies hosted at legendary Jack Brown Stadium.

Jamestown took two out of three against Bellevue University (Neb.) to capture the program’s first Super Regional title, which came with it an automatic berth to the Jimmies’ second NAIA World Series appearance in Lewiston, Idaho. The Jimmies battled to a 7-4 loss to Spring Arbor (Mich.) and a 10-5 setback to Embry-Riddle (Fla.) at the World Series but finishing the season at 32-20 and advancing to the pinnacle of NAIA baseball after finishing third in the Dakota Athletic Conference at 11-9, proved how special the 2008 Jimmies were when they were playing at their best.

“With players new to the program as freshmen, transfers from other universities and colleges; the core of the team exemplified the meaning of resiliency, the meaning of tradition and the meaning of brotherhood,” said 2008 Jimmie pitcher Alex Kreis in his nomination of the team.

Jimmies earning All-DAC honors included: Dave Sauter (1st Team), Ben Cairns (1st Team), Jeremy Burgard (1st Team), Graham Campbell (1st Team), Cam McLachlan (2nd Team), Miles Johnson (2nd Team) and Steve Hirchert (2nd Team). DAC Gold Gloves went to Sauter (2B) and Danny White (CF). Campbell was the 2008 Most Valuable Senior.

Said 2008 Jimmie baseball starting pitcher Greg Hockin in his nomination of the team, “We went through a lot of ups and downs during the season and kept striving for excellence and it proved to work in the end.”
