A two-year starter at safety in football and goalie in soccer, Anton Nistl’s forte was not allowing other teams to score. He won All-Del Rey League honors in both football and soccer in two consecutive years and was the football squad’s Most Inspirational Player in his final campaign. Anton was known for his hard-hitting style at safety, and willingness to go over the middle from his slotback position. During his senior soccer season, Anton was not only the team MVP, but was also named All-CIF and All-American. He continued his soccer career at UCLA, where he started all four years and garnered numerous awards. Voted Soccer America All-Freshman in 1986, Anton also collected the team’s Defensive MVP award in 1988. In 1989, he was the Bruins MVP, an NCAA All-American, All-Far West and the ISAA Goalkeeper of the Year. Anton still holds the records for most career shutouts (41), most victories (56) and single-season shutouts with 16 in 1989. He was awarded the honor of being one of UCLA Bruins All-Time Letterman. Anton was a member of the U. S. National teams in 1989 and 1990 and played professional indoor and outdoor soccer for the San Diego Nomads.
