He went on to become an Aero Scout Platoon leader as a First Lieutenant and an Operations Officer for the 1-104th Air Cavalry Battalion. Three years later, he oversaw the operations of The 28th Aviation Brigade, 28th ID as a Colonel, which consisted of 2500 soldiers and over 100 helicopters based in Harrisburg. In addition, Stavovy and his wife, Marcia, founded Mesa Wood Ltd in April 1979. This family-owned and operated custom home-building company has become a staple in the Washington County community.
