Ryan Kane
Title
Director of Athletics
Ryan Kane was named the next athletic director at Carthage College during the 2022-23 academic year. Kane comes to Carthage after being the athletic director at Ripon College.
Ripon College named Kane head men's basketball coach in 2012 and added athletic director to his responsibilities in 2019. As only the third men's basketball coach in 50 years, Kane's 10 seasons as head coach finished with a 158-84 overall record, which includes a 118-50 record in conference games, placing him eighth all-time in conference career coaching wins. The Red Hawks have appeared in the four-team MWC Tournament eight times during Kane's tenure, winning the MWC Tournament in 2017 and 2020 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in both years. During the 2021-22 season, Kane led Ripon to its first MWC regular season championship in 23 years, earning hosting rights for the MWC Tournament for the first time since 1999.
Kane has coached five MWC Players of the Year, a Central Region Rookie of the Year, three All-Americans, and 13 All-Conference selections. Kane's teams have set single-season school records for points, 3-pointers made, and free-throw percentage.
Raised in Green Bay, Kane competed in basketball and golf while studying communications as an undergraduate at St. Norbert College and then earned a master's in sports administration from Valparaiso University.
To begin his coaching career, Kane spent nine years as an assistant at three other Division III schools in the region: Dominican University (Illinois), Lawrence University (Wisconsin), and Loras College (Iowa). After heading to Ripon in 2012, he reached the 100-win mark faster than anyone in program history.
In 2017, Mr. Kane received the school's Presidential Award for General Excellence, which is reserved for a singular staff member each year. The award recognized both the service opportunities he developed for his players and his concerted effort to engage team alumni.
Kane and his wife Paige currently reside in Kenosha with their three daughters, Sadie (6) and twins Reagan and Mayla (4).
